A History of Excellence
1937 McCrone, Jones and Hicks opened for business in Annapolis, offering surveying and engineering services
1938 Jones and Hicks departed and Fayette M. Latham was hired as a rodman for the field crew. The firm became a sole proprietorship doing business as J.R. McCrone, Jr., Engineer and Surveyor.
1946 Jack Latham joined the firm.
1950 John Roy McCrone, Jr. and Fayette M. Latham, Jr. formed the partnership, McCrone & Latham and Harry Sturdevant, P.E. is hired.
1952 The firm was incorporated as J.R. McCrone, Jr., owned by John Roy McCrone, Jack and Fayette Latham, Jr., and Harry Sturdevant.
1955 First Delmarva Peninsula Branch Office opened in Centreville. Over the next 30 years, several offices opened in various small towns on the Eastern Shore and later consolidated into what are now the Centreville, Elkton and Salisbury offices.
1966 F.M. Latham III joined the firm full-time after graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in Civil Engineering and became president in 1982.
1984 The company was reorganized which resulted in the creation of a parent corporation, Design Teams, Inc. (DTI), and an operating company, McCrone
1995 Gary C. Beach promoted to President of McCrone
2005 F.M. Latham III, retired.
2012 Gary C. Beach, retired.
2020 McCrone acquires Hartwell Engineering adding electrical engineering to its services.
Today McCrone has expanded its core engineering and surveying services to offer 3D Visualization, preparation of nutrient management plans, GIS services and electrical engineering. We have four design centers where our staff combine old-fashioned customer service with today's top technology to deliver the best possible service to our clients.
