We welcomed this event as a perfect segue into the official celebration of McCrone’s 75th anniversary which is June 2012.

Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 4.19.42 PMThe company’s roots date back to 1937 when John Roy McCrone, Jr. land surveyor, along with Samuel Jones and James D. Hicks, formed the partnership of McCrone, Jones and Hicks offering surveying/construction services out of its Church Circle office in Annapolis, MD. In 1938, Jones and Hick departed, Fayette M. Latham was hired as a rodman for the field crew, and the firm became a sole proprietorship doing business as J.R. McCrone, Jr., Engineer and Surveyor. The economic impact of World War II forced the firm to close briefly.

However, Mr. McCrone and Mr. Latham, two very determined individuals, reopened the firm in 1942. Post World War II growth changed the size and character of the company. J.R.McCrone, Jr., Engineer and Surveyor was one of the first in the area to establish on-the-job training for veterans.

McCrone, Jr., owned by John Roy McCrone, Jr., Jack Latham, Fayette Latham, Jr., and Harry E. Sturdevant. During this time, the company developed a heavy practice in land surveying and civil engineering. Due to the increasing demand for its diversified ser- vices, in February 1972, the J.R. McCrone, Jr. company headquarters moved from South Street to a new building in West Annapolis at 20 Ridgely Avenue.

In 1984, J.R. McCrone, Jr. was restructured and became McCrone, beginning a new era in the company’s long history as an engineering, surveying, and land planning firm.

Today, McCrone serves the Mid-Atlantic region from our four Maryland office locations: Annapolis, Centreville, Elkton, and Salisbury.
